“This is just the beginning of a crackdown”
Before he was elected, now Austrian Chancellor Sebastian Kurz had made a promise to crack down on radical islam. Yesterday he announced thst the government will close seven mosques, expelling several more imams from the country.
This decision puts into action a law passed in 2015 which bans religious groups from being funded by any foreign entity, and since many imams and worship places, in this case are funded from Turkey, the law can apply in Austria’s case.
