So I’ve been really getting into science fiction lately – I’ve been looking into more books as well as watching more TV shows related to the genre. In fact, I think I’ve become a bit obsessed with DC shows?
I always thought that I was a Marvel girl. I’ve recently started reading the comics, and I absolutely love the movies, especially the Deadpool and Avengers movies (although I haven’t watched the latest one yet… I know, I’m missing out!). However, the DC shows that I’ve watched have really been looked into and are quite well-made, some more than others, of course.
Here’s what I’ve been watching recently (of DC):
The Flash: This series is AMAZING. I love the idea of multiple dimensions/worlds and the way Barry also makes mistakes, even though he’s the almost typical good-guy type of superhero. No one’s perfect in the end, and this show has a great way of showing that.
Arrow: This series is the first one I’ve watched that’s been related to the ‘Arrowverse’, being the DC Universe where almost every series mentioned here (excluding Gotham) is based on. I loved the first three seasons, and whilst the last three have been lacking a bit, it’s very important to start with this series first before you start the others, as it introduces the universe and sets the tone for the other series. This series is more of an action/superhero series than science-fiction, but it does play on the scientific aspects of the other series.
Legends of Tomorrow: This one I think is my least favorite, simply because it’s quite haphazard, which is one of its main plot points (considering what the Legends actually do), but otherwise it’s not too bad and it’s a bit of a fun and light distraction from the seriousness of the other shows.
Supergirl: I’ve just started this series and I’m actually enjoying it so far; however, if you don’t know a lot about Superman and his adventures, you might feel slightly lost (at first). Probably best to start off with the Superman movies first, but it’s all down to your preference. I love that Kara (Supergirl) is very hopeful and dedicated to what she does, but the fact that she tends to struggle to balance her normal life with her duties as Supergirl, as well as her imperfect but loving relationship with her foster sister, Alex, makes the show and her character more realistic, which is a huge plus for me.
I’m also catching up on ‘Gotham’ and ‘Doctor Who’! Other series that I’ve watched are: ‘The 100’, ‘Black Mirror’, ‘Altered Carbon’ & ‘Stranger Things’.
Once I finish Supergirl I’ll be getting into the Marvel series, and perhaps make a post comparing DC with Marvel! So stay tuned :3
