My Favourite Fantasy Books

Hope this week has treated you well :3

So Fantasy is one of my favorite genres to read, and whilst there are so many books that I can talk about, some that have been a craze and now aren’t so much anymore, there are a few that I would definitely recommend to anyone and everyone who mentions the genre to me. Here are my favorites!

  1. Throne of Glass series, Sarah J. Maas
This is one of my favorite series at the moment. It has everything! It has action, mystery, romance, intrigue… the main character is a total badass too, which I love. I also love how she isn’t perfect and clearly flawed, but the way she develops and her relationships with the other characters are very realistic; the other characters are also flawed but loveable, and the world is so well thought-out.
  2. Skulduggery Pleasant series, Derek Landy
I was incredibly hooked on this series in my early teens! It’s such a fresh and unique take on urban fantasy and Skulduggery will always have a special place in my heart. The characters and setting are very well-developed, and the plot itself is such a rollercoaster! I couldn’t put these books down and I was always eager to start the next book. I must admit that I haven’t finished the series yet as it’s still ongoing, but I’m hoping to catch up soon! This is one that I will definitely recommend to everyone.
  3. Hush, Hush series, Becca Fitzpatrick
If you like a darker take on Fantasy, this is definitely the book for you. The main character, Nora, is constantly in danger and Patch always seems to be one step behind her. She is very unsure who to trust, and Patch has some dark secrets of his own. This book is definitely a page-turner and it’s a very dark twist on fallen-angels!
  4. Angelfall, Susan Ee
This is an apocalyptic mix of urban fantasy and science-fiction which also uses the idea of fallen angels in a very dark and unique manner. The world created by the author is very sinister and grim, filled with many twists and turns, and the evolving relationship between the well-rounded Penyrn and Raffe is definitely one that will keep the pages turning. It’s a story about family, strength, and survival and is a definite must-read!
  5. Evermore, Alyson Noel
This novel and series are very similar to Twilight, in the sense of soulmates and true love, but with a mix of ghosts, immortality potions, reincarnation and jealous and/or murderous exes trying to get in the way of said true love. It’s filled with all the main tropes of romance, such as love triangles and true love, and the world is actually quite intriguing to get into. If you’re a hopeless romantic, this is the book for you!
  6. Switched (Trylle series), Amanda Hocking
If you’re a fan of magical creatures and well thought-out worldbuilding, this is a very good book to read! It looks at Trylle nobility who are switched at birth with normal babies to be raised as humans and to be brought back to their homes when they are 17 – this is the case of Wendy Everly, Trolle princess who is thrust into a beautiful and dangerous world which she may not even want to be a part of. Who is she to trust?
  7. City of Bones series, Cassandra Clare
This book series basically speaks for itself. It’s action-packed and filled with mystery, tragedy, and love that will not only sweep you away but also leave you incredibly heartbroken and race straight towards the next installment. It’s incredibly addictive, the relationships and characters are very well-rounded, and the world is so incredible, you would wish you were living in it!
  8. Name of the Wind, Patrick Rothfuss
This book is very heavy in the sense that the book is HUGE, and there’s so much world-building, as well as character development that you really have to go in with the intent of losing yourself in the story, which is very easy to do! It pulls at your heart-strings and makes you never want to put the book down! I can’t wait for the third installment.
  9. Vampire Academy, Richelle Mead
This is for all the vampire-lovers out there; Vampire Academy is kind of like Hogwarts for vampires, but add some forbidden love, betrayal, deceit, loads of secrets, and some deadly killer-vampires. There’s a lot going on and there’s always a twist that you never see coming! Definitely, one you have to read.
  10. Harry Potter Series, J.K Rowling
Last but not least, I couldn’t NOT mention the Harry Potter series. This series was the face of Fantasy for many years and is an absolute joy to read and watch. Whilst I haven’t finished reading the books yet, I am in love with the movies and I suggest that everyone has a go at them!
