Hey guys! It’s been a while!
So, it’s one of my favorite times as you all know, and with the magic of Autumn also comes the wonderful time of the year known as Halloween! Ghosts, Ghouls, Monsters, Spirits from this world and others, it is an amazing time when imagination, magic, and terror runs wild. This also means, books inspired by these things! Which is what I want to talk to you about today.
So, please enjoy these spooky/thrilling recommendations by yours truly:

The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer series: The book begins with the main character, Mara, having no memory of the accident that killed all her friends and is constantly wondering why she was the only survivor. She starts over in a new school, but nothing is as it seems, and her hallucinations and other PTSD symptoms only complicate her desire to move on and start afresh. But she can’t escape her past forever. There’s also Noah (<3), and a slow-burn hate-to-love romance that will always have you begging for more. It’s part psychological thriller, part paranormal romance, and is filled with a whole lot of creepy and WTF moments that are perfect for the Fall season. Honestly, what isn’t there to love about this story?

The Collector: I recently read this book and it is one of the best thrillers I have read in a long time. It is about a young man named Frederick Clegg, who kidnaps a woman that he believes he loves and locks her away in his basement, convinced that he can make her love him back. However, he soon finds that his love is not as innocent and docile as she appears. Both must work through their own prejudices to fully understand each other and the world around them. But will he ever let her go? A book that you will not be able to put down!
Frankenstein: A classic that must be mentioned, a must-read for fans of horrors and thrills! The main character, Victor Frankenstein, is obsessed with the mad dream of creating his own creature, and experiments with alchemy and science to build a monster stitched together from dead remains. Once the creature becomes a living entity, it turns on Victor and threatens to destroy everything he holds dear. Whilst it is not a favorite of mine, the plot was very thrilling and enjoyable.

Hush, Hush: One of my most cherished books, Hush-Hush is a dark tale that stole my heart and has stayed with me for so many years. It’s dark, it’s mysterious, and it’s incredibly thrilling! There are a lot of villainous characters and there’s a lot of uncertainty as to who the MC can actually trust, including the boy she’s tutoring, known as Patch (who probably started my once-obsession with bad boys). There’s murder, secrets, forbidden romance… do I need to say more?

The Body Finder: Another great book that is part scary thriller, and part romance. This story follows Violet, who has the ability to sense dead bodies; since she was little, she has been haunted by the echoes of dead bodies calling to her, as well as the imprints they leave on their killers. Whilst grappling her changing feelings for her childhood friend, Jay, there is a serial killer on the loose in Violet’s town, and she might be the only person who can stop him… unless the killer gets to her first. A great read!!

Raven’s Gate: Another great book that has all the creepy, thrilling vibes. I don’t know why this book isn’t talked about more as it’s AMAZING. Young Matt Freeman gets into trouble with the police and is sent to a foster home in Yorkshire. However, he soon senses there’s something wrong with the whole village, and the people in them. He then begins to learns why he is so different, but no one can help him, or will believe him. Why is the Gate so important? It’s scary, creepy, thrilling, and everything you never knew you needed or wanted in your life.

The Phantom Forest: Something to read if you like creepy villains and morally grey characters with some magic and the Underworld thrown in for good measure. It’s a fantastical tale and definitely one to read! If you’d like to see more of my thoughts, you can read my review here.

Half Bad: An incredible book filled with witches, good vs evil, and a young boy caught in the middle and no one to trust. Caged up, beaten, and trained to kill; the son of the world’s most terrifying witch, Nathan wants to escape from his captors and find his father to receive his three gifts in order to come into his own magical powers before it’s too late.

Blood Magic: Another great book with dark magic! Silla receives a mysterious book on her doorstep one day, filled dark magic spells. And she is willing to do anything to find out the truth about the mysterious death of her parents… including spilling some blood.

Tales of Horror: Who can deny Edgar Allan Poe during this time of year? The Master of Short Stories! Honestly, any book by him would be okay, but this short story collection is the only one I have.
