He walks on stage,
stands up tall,
smiles and waves
as the people roar.
In him, they see hope.
The future seems bright
as the politician declares
that for the people, he’ll fight.
But power corrupts,
and absolute power corrupts absolutely.
He had a way with words
though truthful, he was not.
He tricked them into believing
that he was the best they’ve got.
Lies, greed, deception,
but the people still believed him.
There were some who saw right through him,
but hadn’t the power to stop him.
Because power corrupts,
And absolute power corrupts absolutely.
