Vote for a sustainable Malta

Extinction Rebellion Malta is organising a rally tomorrow in front of parliament as a response to the upcoming election, with the group wanting to see an end to “politics as usual”.

Statement from Extinction Rebellion Malta:

The parties aren’t doing enough. They claim that they want change, yet the system itself incentivises short-term gain at the expense of long-term solutions. Unless they address the root of the issues, their manifestos are mere words on paper. In short, unless the parties tackle problems together, we will still be faced with the same issues; monstrous buildings, traffic congestion, lack of green spaces, pollution, etc.

Extinction Rebellion has four main focus points for this rally:

First, the organisation wants the political parties to stop providing vague and green-washed proposals right before the elections. These are quickly forgotten, if ever launched. Extinction Rebellion wishes for the parties to create a detailed, clear and transparent plan for the future of the country.

Secondly, bi-partisan name-calling must come to an end if we are to tackle global problems. Infighting only distracts us from larger issues so we need to realise that divided we fall but united we stand.

Lastly, we wish to bring attention to the fact that some people believe that they are above others and above the land. We want to transform the legal system in order to bring people and corporations to justice, people who have ravaged our country for their own profit.**
