Recent Comic Books I Read

So for today’s post, I thought I should talk to you about comic books/ graphic novels. Up until about 2 years ago, I had only ever read novels and a few manga books. However, when going to my 2nd comic con, I couldn’t resist going to one of the stands that were selling a ton of comic books and graphic novels and ended up buying some (one of them was signed by the author!)

They were: S.T.E.A.M.: Island Under Siege by Peter Magro & Ashley Eric Peschel (signed by Peter!); Deadpool Killustrated; And The Wicked and The Divine Vol 1: The Faust Act.

I only read Deadpool and The Wicked and The Divine (the graphic novel got lost amongst my other books) but I became hooked!
Since then I have bought a few more, and my love of comic books is only growing! My collection is pictured above.

As you can see, I have a mix of genres and styles, but I think my favorite ones are:

  • The Wicked and the Divine series: As the first comic I ever read, it was quite the eye-opener. The story was dark and intriguing, the art was beautiful, and it ended on such a cliff-hanger! I was hooked. I actually finished this comic while waiting for the bus back home from Comic-Con.
  • The Saga series: I honestly get why there’s been such a hype over this: it’s AMAZING. I only have the first 3 volumes, but it’s everything I ever wanted it a story. It’s an amazing mix of sci-fi and fantasy, the plot and characters are incredibly thought-out and move beautifully, and the art is stunning.
  • The Fade-out: This is more realistic as it’s set in 1948 in Hollywood, and it really sheds a light on what the film industry was like at the time. There’s sex, intrigue, murder, everyone is guilty of something and it’s such a dark read, but the story is very raw and realistic, and so is the art.

I’m still pretty much a newbie when it comes to comics, but I’m looking more into Marvel and D.C., as well as other independent comics and graphic novels, and I already have a list of what I want to buy in summer!
